Emanuel de Carvalho
“Ideological views are permeable and acknowledging them is the first step towards change, at the same time, I hope to bridge the gap between painting and today’s digital world, while humbly acting as an artist that is attentive to the changes being brought to light by a new generation of thinkers.”
Emanuel de Carvalho is a London based artist whose work examines issues of gender and identity. Bodies, often the artist’s own, and objects are depicted as believable extensions of our world and are intertwined with inanimate structures in performative stances. Emanuel deconstructs the concept of perception and imagination; this is why these figures are often represented in gestural postures, such as splaying backwards on a stool or removing a pair of trousers in a car, giving the work a profound sense of dynamism.
